We will be looking at mini beasts and people who help us. As well as watching our very own caterpillars grow and change we will also invite people from the community into Hopscotch to talk about their very important jobs, fire-fighter, police officers, nurses etc.
In our physical development we will be designing and building our own obstacle courses, playing large group games and being involved in teamwork. We will pretend to be bugs and note how they move differently from ourselves.
Communication and Language
We will think of and write questions for our visitors and be encouraged to ask these ourselves.
For maths we will be looking at repeating patterns in the bug world and making small additions (using ladybird dots) doubling up etc, we will introduce estimating.
Art and Design
The children will be keen to use their creative skills to make all the items they need to be a police officer, or firefighter and create large bugs out of reclaimed materials.
Understanding the world
We will be talking about different bug creatures and their habits.
We will write questions for our visitors as well as writing some thank you letters!
Children will have opportunities to use cameras, walkie talkies, a computer and video camera throughout the term.
